About

Email that stays
out of your way.

A native Mac email client built for people who believe inbox zero is a daily habit, not a fantasy.

The client we wished existed.

Email clients have been frustrating for years. Web apps are slow. Native alternatives are either expensive, bloated, or built on cloud sync layers nobody asked for. We wanted something that felt like it was built for the way we actually use email — fast, local, keyboard-driven.

So we built it. ZenMail is a native Mac app that talks directly to Gmail, stores everything locally, and gets out of your way the moment you're done. It uses less memory than most apps sitting in your menu bar. That's not an accident — it's a priority.

Principles

Four things we care about.

Instant, always.

Every interaction lands in under a frame. No spinners, no loading states, no waiting for a round-trip. If you can press the key, the result is already on screen.

Private by design.

Your email never touches a ZenMail server. It syncs directly from Gmail to an encrypted database on your Mac. We couldn't read it if we wanted to.

Keyboard-first.

Every action has a shortcut. Archive, snooze, reply, compose — your hands never have to leave the keys. Built to reward people who move fast.

Lightweight by choice.

Most email apps treat your Mac like a server. ZenMail treats it like a device you care about. No background bloat. Just email.

The Team

Built by one person.

ZenMail is an independent project. There's no VC, no growth team, no dark-pattern roadmap driven by quarterly targets — just a developer who wanted a better email client and decided to build it properly.
